Ronan McCabe appointed CIO, New Zealand

Auckland, 27 January, 2021 – Mercer has announced the appointment of Ronan McCabe as Chief Investment Officer, New Zealand, having held the acting CIO role since September 2020. The permanent appointment also sees Mr McCabe promoted to Partner.

Retaining his role as Head of Portfolio Management, Pacific, Mr McCabe will continue to be responsible for the single-sector funds across Pacific, while taking on permanent responsibility for the New Zealand Investment team and all Mercer funds in New Zealand.

Pacific CIO Kylie Willment said she was excited for Mr McCabe to leverage his local and international expertise to drive greater investment outcomes for clients.

“Having undertaken a rigorous recruitment process, it is clear to us that Ronan is the right person for the job. Ronan’s dual role will enable him to maintain a strong connection to the business on a regional and global level, and bring the best of Mercer to our clients in New Zealand,” Ms Willment said.

“I have no doubt that our clients in New Zealand will benefit from the breadth of Ronan’s investment capabilities, as they have over the past four months,” she continued.

Martin Lewington, Mercer New Zealand CEO, said Mr McCabe had already made his mark on New Zealand clients with his wealth of investment knowledge.

“Ronan has established a strong rapport with our clients and colleagues in New Zealand, and we’re delighted that he will join the New Zealand Leadership Team permanently,” Mr Lewington said.

Mr McCabe said he was looking forward to strengthening his relationships with clients in New Zealand.

“I’m excited to be taking on this role, and getting to know our clients on a deeper level once my boots are on the ground in Auckland. It has been a tumultuous year, particularly for our investments team in the region, but with eyes wide open, I’m looking forward to partnering with clients to help them realise their investment objectives,” Mr McCabe said.
